Mr. Smernes began his legal career as a Deputy District Attorney for Yolo County. It was here that he learned the importance of community participation and providing the best legal services possible to his clients.
After leaving the DA’s office, Mr. Smernes started a private practice where he has represented clients in numerous aspects of the law, including civil litigation, real estate, personal injury, corporate contracts, and criminal defense.
His legal achievements are numerous, spanning from receiving one of the largest medical malpractice settlements in history at the time, to saving many dozens of homeowners from foreclosure during the securities disaster during the 2009 to 2015 era.
Mr. Smernes also became a real estate developer and investor when he entered private practice and has led or participated in many real estate transactions. This experience provides him with unique insights into both the legal and business aspects of a deal.
